Etude 2, Circular Breathing & Saturation, for Jean Claude Risset.
This is my Electroacoustic Etude 3. This is a sound source (sax, voice, etc.) run through two ring modulating oscillators accompanied by a uncoupled ring modulating oscillator. Their various spectral facets are run by random value generators up to 3 macro levels thick. This patch and the score are available for download. The etude is dedicated to John Sampen.
Kaoru Abe was a saxophonist who died in 1978 at the age of 29. There are still plenty of clips of his performances on youtube. This homage was recorded live at JACK on July 13, 2012.
